Zachary Peel-McGregor has worked in the camera department for almost a decade in the capacity of Assistant Cameraman on scores of television commercials and such high profile film’s as The Great Gatsby, Mad Max - Fury Road, The Wolverine, The Shallows and Alien Covenant. A few years ago, he decided to shift his main focus to his shooting career.
Short films he has shot have screened at some of the top film festivals around the world, garnering multiple awards and nominations. Zachary’s work has been awarded by the Australian Cinematographers Society and European Cinematographers Society.
The short film Milkmaid that he shot in 2014 was awarded by David Lynch and shortly after, Zachary travelled to the USA where he shot a music video for Kid Moxie's cover of the Blue Velvet theme song Mysteries of Love - music by Angelo Badalamenti and lyrics by David Lynch. The video premiered in L.A. at the David Lynch Foundation benefit concert, playing alongside Moby and Duran Duran.
In 2016, Zachary was the recipient of the Global Cinematographers Institute Founder’s Award by Yuri Neyman ASC and Vilmos Zsigmond ASC and received a grant to attend an intensive course at the Global Cinematographers Institute in Los Angles, where he was mentored by world renowned cinematographers Dean Semler and Dante Spinotti.
Zachary has worked with a wide range of motion picture cameras - from consumer DSLR’s to high end professional cameras such as the Alexa and RED Dragon. He has also worked as a production stills photographer and has extensive knowledge of still cameras having worked in a professional camera store.
